Letter to ICU Attendees:

As you may have read, Cadence has announced a new user community called the Cadence Designer Network. The board of the ICU has voted to join forces with this new organization, which we believe will provide a more comprehensive user group structure. I am writing now to encourage you to join me in supporting this new program and to invite you to participate.

As chairman of the ICU, I’ve had a chance to learn about this endeavor, and I am convinced the Cadence Designer Network will be a worthwhile experience for Cadence users. It offers opportunities to improve communications from customer to customer, and between us and Cadence.

The Cadence Designer Network will be customer and technology centric. Its activities will include sponsoring a series of technical customer conferences worldwide, called CDNLive! and establishing customer advisory teams to focus on specific technical issues. The recommendations of the advisory teams will be integrated into the Cadence products and roadmaps, as they will be integral to Cadence’s process for defining and directing product evolution. Later this year, we will launch a Web-based community for Cadence users with the hopes of a migration path to our PCB Forum email exploder.

It’s important to note that while Cadence is supporting the annual user group meeting in North America , the customer members will manage content. A 22-member steering committee, which includes 15 Cadence customer members, will be responsible for developing and driving the agenda for the 2005 conference.

I recently was asked by Cadence to serve as chairman of the inaugural steering committee along with ICU Co-Chair Sue Strang and Communications Officer Steven Klass to lead the new organization. The ICU has always been focused on high quality technical content that users need to be more productive in this changing engineering environment. I expect the technical focus will continue with this new organization, and welcome the opportunity to bring more content, more technical papers, and a larger visibility to the annual September event.

To ensure continuity with past ICU conferences, the current ICU Board will step in as advisory team members, which will support the overall steering committee . This essential piece will ensure that we have continuity and inspire the user-to-user interaction that has been the foothold of our organization.

I hope you will join me and other former ICU members in supporting the Cadence Designer Network.

Sincerely,

Michael Catrambone, UTStarcom
